Getting Involved

Finding a way to be connected in the world can be a challenging adventure, but it can also be the adventure of a lifetime. Getting involved with the work that Family Health Ministries does can be as simple as organizing a personal hygiene kit drive at your children's school or church, or as involved as joining a medical or construction team and traveling to Haiti to make a difference there.

Volunteer

Our volunteers come from across the United States to pitch in and help make a difference in the lives of Haitians. Doctors, teachers, stay-at-home moms and dads, retirees, nurses, students, church youth groups, business owners, artists, construction workers, and many other people of all ages give of their time and expertise to help Haiti. Some volunteer here locally in North Carolina, and others make the 3800 mile trip to Haiti to lend a hand. Our most effective advocates are eye-witnesses. Visit our Facebook and Twitter pages and share the news with friends, family and colleagues.

Medical Teams

Health care in Haiti is often difficult to acquire and good health care is scarse. Family Health Ministries began working in 1994 with medical professionals in Blanchard and Leogane to provide high quality health care to these communities. Many of the Haitian practitioners we currently work with have trained in the US to learn about the most up-to-date methods and research findings. Between 6 and 10 Medical Teams travel Haiti each year to work in one of our two clinics providing general health care, as well as contributing to our on-going cervical cancer prevention research project.

Sponsorships

Sponsorship involves establishing a relationship between resources, funds and services, to a group, individual, or project that needs the support. For Family Health Ministries, sponsorship starts with an individual, family, group or business that wants to make a difference in the lives of Haitians but can not really make a physical committment. Sponsorship opportunities exist with our orphanage and schools in Fondwa, or cervical cancer prevention project, and with our fundraising activities here in the US. Sponsorship is as equally important to Family Health Ministries as any other form of involvement. They can be a short term or a long-term meaningful level of support from you, your family, youth group, church, business, professional or social group. You can even complete a sponsorship in honor of someone.

Internships

Internships are not a new concept by any means, but they are definitely a way to make a precise impact on the day-to-day operations of Family Health Ministries. These are ways that students can bring the knowledge from the classroom and meet other individuals and professionals who also share a role in making a difference. Activities include organizing and chairing a fundraiser, from helping with data collection in research projects to web development.

Partnerships

Family Health Ministries partners with a wide variety of individuals, companies, foundations, and organizations to provide the best possible health care to the communities we serve. Partnerships establish communication directly between in-the-field workers and researchers, and companies where collectively ideas, resources, and initiatives can be united to fulfill the needs of Haitians. It is a unique opportunity to partner with Family Health Ministries.
