Getting Involved
Print

If you are interested in volunteering...

Call FHM at (919) 382-5500

or email us at info@familyhm.org

Let us know your expertise and how you'd like to help. We would love to have you on our list of people we can call when we need help, or perhaps you would like to come to our office on a regular basis.  Or maybe you'd like to join us in Haiti.

Help is needed in many areas

volunteer

  • Answering telephones at our Durham office
  • Organizing and tracking supplies donated for Haiti
  • Preparing medicines for medical mission teams
  • Packing the team bags prior to departure from RDU
  • Research data entry
  • Digitizing/Cataloguing of multimedia and photographs
  • Assisting with bulk mailings throughout the year
  • Speaking on behalf of FHM at organized meetings
  • Networking with professional and church organizations
  • Grant writing and fund raising
  • Serving as a primary health care provider in Haiti (June & October)
  • Serving on our annual fund raiser committee and at events

What else can you do?

  • Tell your friends or people from clubs, churches, Rotary, or other organizations about FHM. If you get the opportunity to make a presentation, let us know and we'll help you with specific slides.
  • Write a letter to your local newspaper and get it to do an article on Haiti and Family Health Ministries.  We'll help you with the content.
  • Have a party at your home where you ask guests to bring their checkbooks to make a donation to FHM. We suggest you pick a particular project to support. Call us and we'll give you help to organize your event.
  • If you don't live near Durham, NC, and can't come on a mission trip to Haiti, volunteer locally. Every community needs healthier families.
  • Ask your friends and family to make a donation to FHM in lieu of a gift at your birthday, graduation, anniversary, or other special times. Direct them to our donations page or our online gifts and sponsorships page.
  • Consider living in Haiti.  FHM is often looking for field workers and/or missionaries to spend 1 or more years living in Haitian communities working on FHM projects:
    • teaching English and computer skills in Fondwa
    • conducting medical and public health research in any of our communities
    • working with community leaders on special projects in all our communities
    • helping in our cervical cancer prevention clinic in Leogane
  • consider attending a monthly Board meeting (Meetings are held the third Thursday of most months.  Contact our office for the meeting's location at (919) 382-5500.)
