The team is having a great time. Yesterday (Wednesday), at the clinic we saw 106 patients. The construction team reports that the house is going quickly but it won't be done before they leave.
After their hard work the team went to the "Seven Star Hotel" for cool refreshing drinks. They also got an opportunity to shop for artwork along Delmas 33. They are eager to head to Jacmel tomorrow (Friday).
Peace, Missy

Missy called a little after 3:00pm to say that the team was doing well and that they are still building the house as well as working in the clinic. They saw approximately 80 patients today, and will continue clinic again on Thursday. On Friday, the team will travel to Leogane and visit with Delson Merisier, have lunch at the Ocean Grill, and then head to Jacmel for the night. Saturday, the team will come back up to Fondwa to visit with the Sisters, orphanage and school children, and then return home to the US Sunday.

The 16 team member team is doing great. Today we attended the 9:00am service at the Blanchard Church. Everyone enjoyed the service and were moved by the beautiful voices of the women and children's choir. After church, the team headed over to the home of Emile and Tata (both employees of FHM) to give a little baby shower for their new son Marc Leedson Emile. Leedson was born 22nd September 2011. Tata was very moved by the generosity of the group. Missy Owen, FHM In Country Manager, was given the honor of presenting Leedson to the team. The team return back to the Blanchard to set up the clinic for start of business Monday morning. When the work was done for the day the team was able to head to the beautiful Visa Lodge for a little bit relaxation. Everyone is eager for tomorrow.

The October 2011 Medical Team arrived safely in PAP shortly after lunch today. The team met with Michael and Nicole at RDU in the wee hours Saturday morning to weigh the team bags, go over the trip itenerary, and join hands in a prayer for the team's travels. The team spent Saturday getting settled in to their accomodations. The team will attend Sunday morning church services, and then prepare for a busy week of clinic.

Having the chance to go to Haiti and serve others for a week this summer was a life changing experience for me. I always knew I wanted to serve people and try to make the world a little better of a place, but seeing Haiti and interacting with all the people there really solidified that dream. The people were just people. They were not different than us in any way except their life experiences. I guess for me the realization that they had so much while having so little was what was most powerful about the experience. Everyone there was so friendly and wanted to talk or try and talk to you, even with the language barrier. We were stopped by so many members of the community every time we went anywhere because people wanted to talk and see how we were doing. Haiti made me realize the little things in my life that matter most to me, like my friends, my family, and serving my community. I really hope FHN does more Youth trips to Haiti because this is an experience that I think all youth should try and take an advantage of. If we start helping young there are endless possibilities for what we can accomplish. (~ from Joely Pope, North UMC)
