The right forces are coming together to fill the need for qualified nurses in Haiti:

• the first baccalaureate nursing program led by Haitian American Hilda Alcindor
• the plans for a new research hospital and clinic for women and children, the Leogane Family Health Center
• the graduation of children from the Fondwa Orphanage who want to pursue careers in nursing, and
• the emergence of a US leadership team which has the passion to help Haitians who otherwise would not have the opportunity to pursue degrees in nursing.

The scholarship program
Family Health Ministries formed the Nursing Scholarship Program in September 2008 in response to the emerging needs of its Fondwa school program where students, particularly orphans, required financial assistance to pursue post-high school education.  The scholarship program  is modeled after a sponsorship program that FHM has run at the secondary school level for eight years.

Sponsors may make a one-time donation to the scholarship fund or sponsor a student over the three years of their course of study.  Sponsors or sponsor groups will receive personal information and regular updates about the students they support.

Some groups enjoy sponsorsing a student as a group service activity. Call us at 919-382-5500 and we'll work with you to set up a program just for your. 

You can also contribute by going on a medical team to Haiti, or by collecting free medical supplies.
