Give me a Job

A common theme that I’ve been experiencing while I visit the tent cities and talk to people in the area is that everyone wants me to get them a job. I get names and numbers where ever I go. I’m not really sure how I feel about all this. On one hand I’m really excited because I think it’s great that people are looking for opportunities and want to work instead of me just giving them money. On the other hand, just because I’m from an organization doesn’t mean that I can get you a job.

Despite all I’ve said, it’s completely different when you’re talking to someone and you’re looking at their tent that is filthy. They’re explaining to you that every time it rains their entire family gets sick and that they had a job as a baker, hair stylist, carpenter, the list continues. Seeing newborns being held by their mother who is sitting on cement block, seeing children that are malnourished running and playing that affects me. But while I would like to immediately solve everyone’s problem and find everyone work, I can’t. I can’t save the world. I can’t save Haiti. I can’t save Leogane. I can’t even save one tent city. I have to work with what I’ve been given and let God do the rest.

Here are a few photos from the week!
