Blanchard (Terre Noir) is an urban community just north of the Port-au-Prince airport and ~2 miles from Cite Soleil. (See map below) Over the last 10+ years, the Blanchard community transitioned from Barbincourt sugar cane fields into a neighborhood of more affluent residents before it became engulfed by poverty as peasants fled the political turmoil in Cite Soleil following Aristide's departure from Haiti. During the political instability, many people were traveling several hours north to see a doctor. FHM responded to this vacuum in accessible health care by partnering with Duke University Chapel and others to build and operate the Blanchard Family Health Clinic that now provides primary care and public health services to the local community. It is estimated that there are approximately 12,000 homes in the immediate area at this time.
